This title is a rather common expression, particularly by those who avidly explore the subject of spirituality. It implies that the true essence of who we are is spiritual in nature. That our bodies are physical representations that allow spiritual expression in our physical reality. I don't want to get too esoteric, because I believe strongly in the practical applications of spirituality to improve our lives.
If we truly believe the title of this message in the way we live our lives, it could have a significant impact. Most of all, this inherent spiritual dimension is probably our most important mentor. It serves to provide us the guidelines for relationships with others. For example, if we are really spiritual beings, then race, color, sex, national origin, ethnicity, or any other physical form is primarily a role we play in continual learning.
Even the situations we create for ourselves are all designed to fully experience what it means to be a human being. Experience is
the most important teacher we have for gaining wisdom.
I define wisdom as an in-depth understanding, empathy, and compassion for the human experience. Such wisdom allows us to suggest guidelines for our children's growth, recognizing that they will ultimately choose regardless of our suggestions. Yet, we are always there for whatever they might encounter as a life challenge or opportunity; be it self-image, addiction, achieving, athletics, supporting others, or living fully to their potential
Making the connection to one's spiritual self began with the previous message I wrote. Let's continue that stepwise process:
4)
After exhausting the continual thoughts your mind provides, attempt to arrest thinking altogether. For example, you'll become aware of "coming back" without recognizing when you left! This is the true state of meditation, whether you choose a quiet place, a walk in nature, go into the zone, etc.
5)
When you come back, become aware of a wisdom insight you might have discovered. For example, when you were "mindlessly" away, you were also experiencing spiritual learning. This learnig is the essence of truth,
for you. A wisdom insight might be "someone who is angry is someone in pain."
I'll stop here, for these are two challenging steps. However, they are skills that we are also good at. Most often, we simply haven't practiced them recently or we've forgotten since we were children! Try these two steps for at least a week to get good at them. We all used to be experts at inner space exploration.
