Lea Guillory--Age 12 Years Old

When I heard about the hurricane Katrina I was very scared for my Aunt, Barbara Thompson, who lived in New Orleans. We couldn’t get a hold of her for what seemed like a long time. People kept calling my father’s house to see if we had heard anything from Barbara, when they asked “have you heard anything from Barbara yet?” we asked the same to them. No one knew anything until Barbara finally called my father and told him that she was okay and all that stuff.
A little while later Barbara came to live at my father’s house. My father was nice enough to let her stay with us until she finds a place of her own. At first it seemed like she was just visiting us like she always had in the past. But as time passed I looked forward to seeing her. Barbara was and is a very smart, powerful, educated, strong, independent, loving, and caring person. She is a big influence in my life. She is someone I feel I can talk to.
Later, Barbara and her family and friends found out that Barbara’s house had seven feet of water in it, and it had been looted. Her friend managed to get some of her earrings and jewelry out of her house. She had lost all of her photo albums of her many trips and of her family and yet she is working to make new albums as she told me one morning.
She has taken trips to visit her friends and just for fun. It’s as though she never really lived in New Orleans, although she has. Barbara is back to her normal routine; she takes the bus places and does things for everyone. I wish every one had an Aunt like my Aunt Barbara!

Comments:
Lea, you are clearly a strong and educated young woman. Keep your focus on what you want for your life and go for it! Good luck to your Aunt Barbara and the rest of your family as well.

I dont know where this can relate to but I am a New Orleans native been here for 2 years and glad to be here. Although I miss my city, it has given me the opportunity to start a new life and earn a decent living, something I could never do back home working minimum wage jobs. Though it is very cold in the winter, it's not such a bad place. I wan to say to all my fellow natives that have arrived..Welcome, glad you're here, Who dat? Lagniappe and all that jazz. Laissez les bons temps rouler!!

You are very talented and smart. Keep the faith

Lea called me to read something on her computer. I thought she was calling me to play a game with her. When I read what she had written about Aunt Barbara, tears came to my eyes. Such hope, caring and love, in the midst of all I had lost. Thank you Lea and all of you who have someone to truly care about you and you love so completely. Thank you Lea. I am extremely fortunate to have a wonderful niece and family.
Aunt Barbara

Lea you are smart and very nice to be talking and caring about your aunt!

ANIMAL KINGDOM Animal Kingdom: A Diversity Fable.
The message of this book is quite simple and straightforward: “When we gain the humility to compatibly resolve our differences — both within and among different groups — we will also gain the wisdom to live and work together in greater harmony.” In Animal Kingdom, the message is to learn to “see through the eyes of others as a necessity to compatibly live and work together to survive an impending crisis. But in order to work together, each group must first learn how to set aside their own opinions, ideas, and even values in order to avoid an impending crisis.
